Georgetown church holds marathon meal-packing project

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Volunteers at Grace Christian Church have a full plate this weekend, with the goal of providing 250,000 meals to under-resourced children in Haiti.

The service project is in partnership with Feed My Starving Children, a Christian non-profit that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children.

Meals preparation began Thursday and will continue through Saturday.

Organizers say they are raising $55,000 dollars in order to pay for the meals, and are asking for donations from the public in a final push to hit that mark, and say a gift of &80 dollars can feed a child for an entire year..  Those interested can make a tax deductible donation to Feed My Starving Children by clicking here.

The church is also looking for volunteers to help with the packing of food by donating two hours of time on Friday or Saturday.  Those interested in signing up for a shift can register by clicking here.

Finally, concurrent to preparing the thousands of meals, the church is running a food drive for the Amen House, a local food bank.  Organizers are asking volunteers to bring face canned goods when they show up for their shift.
