Garbage truck driver pleads not guilty after wrecks

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) – A garbage truck driver has pleaded not guilty after he was accused of driving the wrong way and causing a series of wrecks that injured several people in western Kentucky.

News outlets report that 23-year-old Dalton Lampley of Calvert City pleaded not guilty in Marshall County District Court on Monday to numerous charges, including felony counts of fleeing from police and possessing methamphetamine.

Paducah police say at least six people were injured Friday after Lampley drove through a median on Interstate 24 and into oncoming traffic. It is unclear how serious the injuries are.

Authorities say Lampley continued driving, prompting a chase that came to an end after deputies used spike strips to deflate the truck’s tires.

He is also charged with six counts of first-degree assault in McCracken County.
