Friends, family and total strangers gather to remember Savannah Spurlock

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Savannah Spurlock’s visitation was open to the public and dozens, if not hundreds, of people showed up to pay their respects.

The 23-year-old mother of four went missing on January 4, 2019. After months of searching, her remains were discovered on a Garrard County property Wednesday.

Her family announced on the Missing Savannah Facebook page that visitation will take place Tuesday, July 16 from 5 – 9 p.m. at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home on Barnes Mill Road in Richmond.

The family said funeral and burial services will be private.

Jamicia Scott said she knew Savannah for about seven years.

“She impacted a lot of people. She knew a lot of people and a lot of people knew her,” she said.

Scott said it was Spurlock’s joyful spirit she’ll always remember.

“She was the life of the party,” Scott said. “She was always smiling, always cheerful, always happy.”

Scott said she’s praying for Spurlock’s kids.

“I pray for her babies, most of all, that they grow up to have a good life and everyone remembers her family and that they teach her babies how she was,” Scott said.

Multiple first responders who have helped with various steps of Spurlock’s case came to show their support.

Assistant Chief of Richmond Police Department Rodney Richardson said it’s the least he could do.

“I mean you got a 23-year-old with four kids, this is tough for anybody,” he said. “I can’t imagine what the family is going through.”

Tori Robinson and Crystal Stone said they didn’t know each other and they didn’t know Savannah before she disappeared, but that didn’t stop them from spending every chance they had to help look for her.

“We’ve become best friends, Savannah brought a lot of people together,” Robinson said.

Spurlock’s family also announced on the Missing Savannah Facebook page they are selling the #SavannahStrong t-shirts once again, with the proceeds going to Savannah’s children.

Her family planned to take down the Facebook page but now says it will stay up for the next two weeks for the fundraiser and so they will have time to read all the comments left by people.
