Fundraiser for retired race horses at Old Friends

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ)-  What happens to thoroughbreds like American Pharoah, when their competitive racing days are over?

Old Friends farm is located in Scott County. On it, many storied race horses like our latest derby winner live out their days in leisure.

The farm hosted its Annual Homecoming Sunday afternoon. The open house and fundraiser has been going on for 11-years now.

Another former trainer of American Pharoah was there visiting another one of his former thoroughbreds. Kevin McKathan was trainer to Silver Charm, the horse that won the Derby and Preakness back in 1997 before spending years in Japan.

Silver Charm has been at Old Friends’ since December and is in his 20’s now.
