Full scholarship programs to Lexington School accepting applications

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -A pair of scholarship programs that aim to help low-income middle school boys and girls are currently taking applications.

Early in 2011, Pat Madden of Hamburg Place development, approached Lexington School leadership to form a merit-based scholarship for middle school boys. His involvement in Boys Ranch Foundation, established in 1962 by his mother Anita Madden as a residential program for gifted middle school boys from low income Kentucky families, inspired Pat to move forward with Boys Ranch funding for a scholarship program at The Lexington School. Pat explains, “A great education is the difference for these boys, and there’s no doubt The Lexington School provides that. We knew it could change their course in the most positive way.”

Passionate about education and moved by the immediate success of the boys’ scholarship program, Craig and Holly Bandoroff of Denali Stud horse farm, along with their children Katherine, Conrad and Isabelle, formed The Bandoroff Family Scholarship for Girls, the first in a series of girls scholarships now under one name: Pin Oak Scholarship for Girls. Craig elaborates, “The Lexington School needed a scholarship for girls, so we talked about it as a family, stepped up and made it happen. We’re so happy to have started something that will sustain for years to come and make a difference one girl at a time.”

Both scholarships pay all expenses for a single boy and single girl entering 6^th grade. The scholarships cover all materials, fees, after school care, and school trips for the student for all three years of Middle School. The scholarship is valued at $25,000 per year. The student chosen to receive the scholarship will be a socio-economically disadvantaged (qualifying for free or reduced lunch), academically promising student of high integrity and work ethic who has the support of an individual in his/her life who will partner with the school to help assure success.
