Frankfort weather-related travel restrictions lifted
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- A travel restriction in Frankfort was lifted Thursday night. The restriction was put out earlier in the day. It meant that drivers were not allowed to be on the road unless they were going to or from work, or had necessary travel needs.
While it was in place, some pedestrians enjoyed walking in downtown Frankfort. They were welcomed at the only business that appeared to be open. Kentucky Coffee Tree Café owner Mary Nishimuta says, "We serve coffee. And that’s an essential ingredient to life. So I don’t think you have a choice when it’s something like coffee. We take it seriously."
Meanwhile Governor Steve Beshear declared a State of Emergency because of the snowstorm. It allows the state to receive help from the Kentucky National Guard. Meteorologists say parts of Western and Central Kentucky saw between 15 and 20 inches of snow.
