Frankfort Walmart donates shopping spree to girl whose Christmas decorations were stolen

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A little girl is teaching us all a big lesson.

We met 4-year-old Kaylee Smith earlier this week.

Her inflatable Christmas decorations, a snowman and a dog that she had named, were stolen.

Neighbors stepped in to help, replacing the decorations for the family. Now, their yard is full of holiday cheer once again.

Wednesday evening, Kaylee was given a free shopping spree at Walmart in Frankfort, but you might be surprised by who she was shopping for.

“I’m gonna get the other people some,” said Kaylee.

That was her mission as she set out on the shopping trip of a lifetime.

“Before we got here, she said ‘Mommy, I have all kinds of toys.’ Yeah, you do,” said Kaylee’s mom Julie Smith. “She said ‘but I want to get some toys for kids that don’t get a lot.'”

Kaylee was able to shop like this because of a generous donation from Walmart in Frankfort.

Store Leader BJ Cornelius says it was something he and his staff just knew they had to do.

“Right now, she had a Christmas where she was thinking, ‘oh no I’ve lost my Christmas, my lights my decorations,'” said Cornelius. “That’s not the memory I want for her. So, now she can look back years from now and say look at what this community did for me.”

But, it’s also about what Kaylee is doing for the community.

During the shopping trip, one cart was filled, another was brought and filled as well.

What started as a $300 donation turned into over $800.

Kaylee says, for her, this trip was all about making Christmas special for other boys and girls too.

She plans to give many of the toys away.
