Four truckloads of supplies arrive for out-of-work miners
HARLAN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Four truckloads full of love and generosity arrived at the Harlan Center on Tuesday for out-of-work Blackjewel coal miners.
Four tractor-trailer loads, with an estimated $80,000 worth of donated supplies, arrived from the Christian Appalachian Project.
The CAP, along with other groups and individuals, spent the last month collecting the donations.
Blackjewel filed for bankruptcy July 1, 2019. Some employees didn’t receive a paycheck for the work they had done for the company, while others paychecks bounced.
In an instance, thousands of miners were out-of-work, out of money and without health insurance.
A number of groups and countless individuals began collecting money and supplies for the affected miners in an outpouring of generosity.
