Former pastor accused of sexually abusing young girls

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -A former associate pastor at a Lexington church has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing two young girls, according to Lexington Police.

63-year old Reid Buchanan, of Lexington, was arrested Wednesday.  He has bonded out of jail.

He went before a judge in Fayette District Court Thursday and pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual abuse.  He was ordered not to have any contact with the reported victims.  He’s due back in court November 3.

Buchanan worked at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lexington from July 2016 to August 2017.

Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church spokeswoman Cathy L. Bruce said Buchanan was immediately relieved of his duties and suspended when the church learned of the allegations in July.

Bruce says the alleged abuse did not take place on church grounds or at church events.

The arrest citation details accounts of fondling and sexual abuse dating back to when one of the reported victims was in third grade, continuing until April of this year.

The other reported victim told investigators the sexual abuse began two years ago, when she was 12-years old, according to the arrest citation.
