Former Paducah youth minister pleads guilty to sex charges
PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) – A former youth minister at a West Paducah church has pleaded guilty to multiple sex charges.
Local media outlets report 45-year-old Michael Parsons pleaded guilty in McCracken Circuit Court on Wednesday to several charges including seven counts of third-degree rape.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which will run consecutively to a three-year sentence he received in Ballard County in November in a related case.
McCracken Sheriff Jon Hayden said the investigation into Parsons began in March 2015, after deputies received a complaint from the parents of a 16-year-old girl from the church’s youth group, saying Parsons had a sexual relationship with their daughter.
Parsons’ attorney, Jeremy Ian Smith, says his client’s decision to plead guilty was based on Parsons wanting to do the right thing.
