UPDATE: Former mayor speaks out on dog attack

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Former Nicholasville mayor John Martin has opened up about a dog attack he was involved in Thursday afternoon

According to the Sheriff’s office, while Martin was walking his own dog on Cherry Brook Drive, a pit bull appeared and attacked the two, killing Martin’s dog, and causing minor injuries to the former mayor.

On Friday, Martin posted pictures of his dog, Chelsea, to Facebook, as well as a picture of a pit bull that he says is a similar color.  Animal Control, however, says they are receiving conflicting reports on the color of the dog.  Martin’s picture appears to show a gray-ish pit bull, while a neighbor who reportedly pulled the pit bull off of Martin says the animal was brown.

Further muddling the investigation, the former mayor also released a picture of a car in the neighborhood, caught on surveillance video, that he says matches the description of a car neighbors claim to have seen picking up the pit bull.  Again, however, officials say they are receiving conflicting reports on the make, model, and color of the car involved.  ABC 36 has not included Martin’s picture, in the interests of protecting the innocent.

At this time, Animal Control says they have no suspects in the attack.
