Former Kentucky Court of Appeals judge dies in Florida

FORT THOMAS, Ky. (AP) — Judge Charles Bruce Lester, former chief judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals and member of the Legislative Ethics Commission, has died. He was 84.

An obituary posted on Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Homes’ website said Lester, of Cold Spring, died Sunday at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Florida.

Lester served on the Court of Appeals from 1976 to 1996 and later became chairman of the ethics panel.

His son, Scott Lester of Fort Thomas, told The Kentucky Enquirer that his father was deeply committed to his legal work and to those with whom he worked.

Lester was a graduate of the College of William & Mary and continued his legal and judicial education at Harvard, the University of Edinburgh and Oxford. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie, two children and three stepchildren.
