Former Georgetown Council member, community ‘Santa’ dies

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Marvin Thompson, a long-time community leader, activist and city councilman, has died in Georgetown.

An active member of the Georgetown Kiwanis Club, Thompson’s death comes a week after his son was promoted to assistant fire chief in Georgetown. He served as a City Council member from 1999 to 2008 and 2011 to 2020.

But he may have been better known for playing Santa Claus at many Christmas events. He and his wife, Rita, of 46 years also own Not Alone Pregnancy Center, according to the News-Graphic newspaper.

Funeral details are incomplete.
