Former deputy clerk sentenced for stealing funds

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)-A former Livingston County Circuit Court Clerk has been sentenced after stealing thousands in public funds.

Attorney General Andy Beshear reports that a Franklin County grand jury indicted 42 year-old Michelle Barnes of Smithland for abuse of public trust back in June of 2017.

Barnes was recently sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay restitution.

She will also be monitored by the court.

According to prosecution, Barnes illegally took funds while in her official position as deputy clerk between the time frame of January 1, 2013 to March 31,2016.

According to prosecutors, Barnes illegally took funds while acting in her official capacity as deputy clerk between Jan. 1, 2013, to March 31, 2016.
