Former Buffalo Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief indicted on abuse of public trust
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A former Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department Chief has been indicted on one count of abuse of public trust.
Wendell Perkins, 59, of Buffalo, was recently indicted by a LaRue County grand jury for allegedly using funds belonging to the fire department to pay for automotive-related expenditures for non-department vehicles while fire chief.
The Auditor of Public Accounts received a request from the current fire chief to investigate alleged misuse of public funds and mismanagement by Perkins during the period between Jan. 1, 2012, to Dec. 31, 2015. The case was referred to the Attorney General’s office, which announced the indictment on Friday.
“No one is above the law, and anyone who breaks the public’s trust must be held accountable,” Beshear said. “I appreciate the work of my investigators in presenting the alleged criminal wronging to the grand jury and Auditor Harmon for the work of his office.”
