Forest Service conducts controlled burning

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – Starting Wednesday and continuing over the next few weeks, fire management officials with the Daniel Boone National Forest will be conducting controlled burns.

The controlled burns function to restore forest health, improve wildlife habitat and reduce woodland ground fuels.

Unlike wildfires, controlled burns are set under specific weather conditions within established fire boundaries, which may include roads, streams or constructed fire lines prepared in advance.  If conditions are not met on the day planned to set a controlled fire, the burn is postponed or cancelled.

The public may contact the Daniel Boone National Forest with questions regarding controlled burns in their area.
