Flu cases increase in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Health officials say the flu is spreading in Lexington.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says there are now 220 confirmed flu cases, an increase of 40 from last week. There has already been one flu-related death.

The department says about 80-percent of those diagnosed did not get a seasonal flu shot.

According to officials, a seasonal flu shot is the best way to fight the flu, and is especially important for senior adults, young children and anyone with other medical risks.

Flu shots are available in the Public Health Clinic at 650 Newtown Pike, without an appointment. The hours are: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday.
