Floyd County Schools to dismiss early on solar eclipse day

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Floyd County Public Schools will dismiss classes early on the day of the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, according to school officials.

The superintendent says the school district couldn’t verify that the safety glasses that were ordered met specifications for safe viewing of the eclipse.  So, in the name of safety, students will be dismissed early that day.

Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:00 a.m.

Middle schools and high schools, along with the Renaissance Learning Center, will dismiss at 11:15 a.m.
