Floyd County inmate caught after nearly two months on the run

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 22-year-old Floyd County Jail escapee is back in custody.
Sheriff’s deputies along with agents from the U.S. Marshals’ task force took Jacob Estep into custody Friday morning. He’d been on the run for more than a month.

Estep’s original charge was for receiving stolen property as well as failing to appear in court. He now faces additional second-degree escape charges.

He walked out of the ARH Highlands Hospital on May 2 and was last seen running away on Highway 23 in Prestonsburg. He’d been taken to the emergency room for treatment. He’d managed to elude local and state investigators since then.

Investigators believe he stole as car near the hospital. The car was later recovered.
