Florence man falls to his death at Red River Gorge

WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man was believed to be impaired when he fell to his death at the Red River Gorge on Tuesday.

Wolfe County Search and Rescue says its team was called to Whistling Arch by local law enforcement at around 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a man who was under the influence on top of Whistling Arch.

Officials met up with the man’s friends, who said he was last seen on the cliff but they did not know where he went.

Crews searched and discovered the man approximately 150 feet from the top of the cliff line.

The Wolfe County Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene.

The coroner has identified the victim as 20-year-old Louis Fernando Carlos, of Florence.

The coroner says the death is considered accidental and impairment could be a factor.
