Flooding after rounds of storms
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — As severe storms continue to impact Kentucky, officials are warning residents about the increasing threat of flooding in several areas.
According to Governor Andy Beshear, reports of high water were made Thursday in multiple locations, including Estill County and Sadieville. Beshear said swift water rescue teams are activated and ready to respond, while soldiers and airmen from the Kentucky National Guard are providing support to communities affected by the storms.
State highway crews are also working across the Commonwealth to clear trees and debris from roadways.
The Governor is urging everyone to take the flood threat seriously, especially while traveling.
“We will get through this if everyone takes the rising and standing water seriously. Don’t drive through roadways you cannot see. It’s how we’ve lost too many people in the past. It’s not worth it. Just turn around,” Beshear said.
The Governor reported that as of Thursday, at least 25 state highways were blocked by floodwaters.
Drivers are urged to use caution and avoid standing water whenever possible. Emergency officials will continue monitoring the situation and providing updates as needed.
