Fleming County man goes after ‘Bricklayer 500’ crown

FLEMING COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Allen McCleese, with Cornerstone Masonry in Hillsboro in Fleming County, is gearing up for a chance to claim the title, “World’s Best Bricklayer” at the 2021 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 World Championship in Las Vegas on June 9, 2021.

In the competition regularly referred to as the “Super Bowl of Masonry,” McCleese is one of 21 masons battling to be called the best-of-the-best.

Along with his mason tender, Dean McClanahan, the duo qualified for the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 after driving north and winning the Pennsylvania Regional series in Crum Lynn, Penn., earlier this year.

McCleese qualified for the World Championship after laying an adjusted brick count of 534, in only one hour.

McCleese and McClanahan will battle for a chance to win over $125,000 in cash and prizes. They’ll also put Hillsboro on the map.

Hillsboro is an unincorporated community in Fleming County, located at the junction of Kentucky Route 111 and Kentucky Route 158, about 10 miles southeast of Flemingsburg.
