Flags Laid On Veterans’ Graves At Lexington Cemetery

As we approach Veteran’s Day, many activities honoring those that served are going on across central Kentucky.

Sunday afternoon, the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps placed flags on the graves of veterans at Lexington Cemetery. The program is run by the US Navy. 35 cadets are currently enrolled in the Kentucky Division. They spoke with ABC 36 News about the meaning of their actions.

"So the people know that you will always have respect for your country and what soldiers here have fought and done and have served for their country," said one.

"We don’t really get to say hi to them since they’ve died so we’re just going to honor them how we can," said another cadet.

And some had personal connections and reasons for taking part.

"And my grandfather was a veteran in the Navy so I’d like to show my support for him too."

The US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Kentucky Division is the national unit for the State of Kentucky.
