Fisherman’s body recovered from Licking River

CARLISLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The body of a fisherman was recovered Wednesday evening in the Licking River in Nicholas County, according to the Carlisle fire chief. Investigators say the man, whose name hasn’t been released, went fishing behind his home off Abners Mill Road Wednesday morning.

They say when the man’s wife couldn’t reach him, she went down to the river’s bank looking for him and discovered he had apparently slipped and fell into the water.

Several agencies in the county responded to the scene along with Harrison County Search & Rescue around 5:00 p.m., according to the chief.

A total of five boats were in the water dragging the river’s bed, which resulted in the recovery of the man’s body around 7:30 p.m., according to the fire chief.

The chief says the body was found about 15-feet away from the spot where the man apparently fell-in.

The river level was higher than usual due to the recent rain, according to the chief.
