First responders staying safe in the cold
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – First responders don’t have a choice when it comes to avoiding the cold temperatures.
They have to be ready for anything because they don’t know if they’re going to be outside helping someone for 30 seconds or hours.
To keep warm, first responders dress in layers and pack things like extra gloves and hats on their trucks.
But many say even with the cold, they still have a job to do and they’re going to make sure it gets done.
“We do this so much, it’s just kinda second nature so you don’t really think about the cold,” said Sarah McGill, a Lexington firefighter/paramedic. “Especially if your adrenaline is pumping and you’re focusing on your patient care and what you need to do at that time.”
Paramedics say no matter how bad the weather gets the next few days, they’ll be ready for the calls.
