First responders escort boy with brain cancer home

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – First responders from across Floyd County came together to escort a special little boy home from the hospital.

According to posts on the City of Martin Fire Department’s Facebook page, Gauge Samons’ chemo and radiation treatments started in July. He’s now finished up those treatments.

Samons was expected to come home around 5:30 p.m and 6 p.m., so authorities decided to make his return home meaningful.

The first post invited the public to line the sidewalks around the 4 lane from US 23 Prestonsburg to KY 1428 Allen, then home to Arkansas Creek Road.

Other posts showed units lined up along Route 114 to show their support for the young boy, then followed the escort out to Arkansas Creek Road.
