First Chinese community figure skating gala
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The first community figure skating gala was held at the Lexington Ice Center on Saturday.
The gala showcased 12 figure skaters.
The performance was the very first showcase of the Chinese community in the sport of figure skating in Lexington.
“We want to show people there are all kinds of sports, as well as the kids really love it,” said Yan, one of the organizers. “Especially for figure skating, you know it’s kind of a minority sport.”
The show began at 5 and wrapped up at 7 and was free to the public.
“I want to see everyone out there,” said Pei, another organizer. “It’s not only for Chinese people. We welcome all the people who have a passion for ice, please join us. I’m sure it’s not the only tine. We have more to look forward to in the future.”
Yan and Pei Hope to continue this event every year.
