Fire at sawmill in Lewis County causes heavy damage

VANCEBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – A neighbor of a lumber company in Lewis County heard what they thought was an explosion overnight Wednesday, looked outside and saw the business was on fire, according to The Lewis County Herald.

It happened just before 4:00 a.m. at Madden Lumber on the AA Highway, about eight miles west of Vanceburg, according to the newspaper report.

Three volunteer fire departments battled the fire, Tollesboro, Lewis County and Black Oak, according to the report.

The sawmill and several other buildings were heavily damaged by the fire.

No injuries were reported.

After the fire was out, firefighters remained on the scene watching for hot spots to keep the fire from reigniting.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
