Fighting hunger, one food basket at a time
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Hunger is still a problem in many communities. Just Serve, a community service organization through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is helping to address the problem.
On Friday, a 53-foot tractor trailer containing 40,000 pounds of food was donated by Just Serve to the Catholic Action Center at Fresh Approach.
“When we were contacted by the Church of Latter-Day Saints that they had excess food and would we help distribute, we couldn’t say no. This is the core of community–to keep people fed,” said Catholic Action Center Director Ginny Ramsey.
Fresh Approach, a part of Employment Solutions, Inc., will be creating baskets of food that will later be distributed to families in need.
“We’re excited to be able to partner with the Catholic church and one of their charities. We’re excited to be able to give back to the community and participate in this way,” said Lexington Stake President Glen Krebs.
“We’ll be feeding our brothers and sisters in our community. What more could we ask?” said Ramsey.
