Feeling great on Thursday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! Many areas received beneficial rain and storms on Wednesday. Thankfully, most of our area was spared from severe weather. The cold front that helped fire up those storms moved through the region overnight. There is a refreshing feel to air on the heels of that front for your Thursday. Afternoon highs will stay in the mid-80s for most areas. The humidity will be noticeably lower as well, as conditions will feel very similar to Monday across the Bluegrass. Clear skies, dry air, and light winds will lead to very pleasant overnight temperatures. Friday morning will start in the low 60s for most, with some isolated areas falling into the upper 50s.

Unfortunately the pleasant feel doesn’t stick around long. Friday afternoon will feature temperatures once again climbing into the low 90s. The humidity will also be climbing throughout the day. The muggy feel will lead to overnight temperatures only falling into the mid-70s Friday night. This heat and humidity will aid in firing up storms Saturday afternoon and evening. A few of these storms could be strong-to-severe as well. The Storm Prediction Center is already highlighting all of Kentucky for a Level 1 Severe Risk. Damaging wind gusts and locally heavy downpours will be the primary concerns for us. If you’re camping over the weekend, make sure you are staying weather aware and make sure you have a sturdy structure to get to if severe weather strikes near you.

The storms will stick around into the first half of the day on Sunday before another cold front sweeps through Sunday night. This passing front will lead to a BEAUTIFUL start to the month of July. Afternoon highs will only reach the upper 70s and low 80s for most areas. Nothing to complain about there! That pleasant feel is short lived once again. Hot and humid conditions return by the middle of next week. This will likely lead to more storm chances Wednesday into your 4th of July holiday on Thursday.
