FBI agent: Illegal campaign contributions went to Andy Beshear and Jack Conway

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Former state Personnel Cabinet Secretary Tim Longmeyer arranged for illegal campaign contributions to go to current Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear and failed Gubernatorial candidate Jack Conway, according to court records that a judge agreed to unseal following a request by the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The newspaper reported that the court documents quote FBI agent James Huggins as saying he had no reason to believe Beshear nor Conway knew about the reported scheme.

Longmeyer pleaded guilty in federal court in Lexington last month to taking bribes while in office. He admitted he steered work to a private consulting company in exchange for $200,000 in kickbacks.

Longmeyer also served briefly as Deputy Attorney General under Andy Beshear before resigning. Longmeyer faces up to 10-years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in August. He is free on bond.
