Fayette’s moving average up to 216, two more COVID deaths

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two more deaths, including a well-known pastor, are grim reminders of the impact of the current COVID surge on the community.
According to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s morning report Friday, the county confirmed 278 cases Thursday, pushing the total since March 2020 to 41,282.
The seven-day moving average which better indicates the direction of the virus in the community, rose from 208 Wednesday to 216.
The two deaths, including Center Point Baptist Pastor Tim Parsons, brings the county’s total to 333.

Free COVID-19 vaccines are available by same-day appointment every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Public Health Clinic at 650 Newtown Pike.

Both vaccinated and unvaccinated populations can help slow the outbreak by:
• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick, especially those with COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, muscle/body aches, loss of taste/smell, nausea, etc.);
• Covering coughs and sneezes;
• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
• Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
• Wearing a face covering in crowded public areas.
While there’s still a chance a fully vaccinated person can get COVID-19, symptoms will likely be less severe and the need for hospitalization is much smaller. Since February 2021, about 88% of Lexington’s COVID-19-related hospitalizations are in people who are unvaccinated or aren’t fully vaccinated.

The monthly totals of COVID-19 cases during the outbreak are:

• 793, June
• 1,702, July
