Fayette Mall reopening food court

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fayette Mall has announced it is reopening its food court, one day after closing it because of reported illnesses.

Fayette Mall voluntarily closed the food court Monday after the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says it received more than 150 reports of people becoming ill.

Health officials say they believe the illnesses were caused by a stomach bug but are still looking into a cause.

They have ruled out hepatitis A.

Chick-fil-A was the first restaurant in the food court to announce it was closing after several employees called in sick.

The mall released a statement on Tuesday saying some of the 11 businesses in the food court will remain closed until the required cleaning is completed.

“We have worked closely with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, we have followed the cleaning protocols that were provided, and Lexington-Fayette County Health Department officials were on-site at our request this morning to visit each food court tenant prior to reopening,” the statement read.

The mall says the food court, including tables, chairs, corridors, floors, and public and employee restrooms, along with the play area nearby, have been cleaned.
