Fayette County discusses continued vaccination efforts

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Of the people currently hospitalized by COVID, the vast majority are unvaccinated. That’s just one of the facts Lexington officials are using to make the hard push to get more residents vaccinated.

Fayette County is nearing the 70% vaccinated mark. And almost 90% of people over 65 are fully vaccinated. City leaders are continuing a successful door-to-door campaign to get the numbers up. And next week, the city and educators are doing more school clinics to try to get more students vaccinated before school starts.

“We’re moving in the right direction, not as quickly as two months ago, but still getting more folks vaccinated each week. Keep up the momentum Lexington,” said Dr. Kraig Humbaugh, health commissioner.

Councilman At-Large Chuck Ellinger II said, “Of the percentage that are in the hospital, it looks like 99 percent are people who are unvaccinated so it really does work. If we can just get people to get vaccinated.”

The information came today during the city’s regular COVID update.
