Fayette Co. Sheriff’s Office kicks off annual coat drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — The 11th annual Diana Ross Coat Drive is now underway in Lexington to help keep those in need warm this winter.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office kicked off the drive Wednesday morning at Chase Dry Cleaners on South Ashland Avenue.

“This community has really bought into this project. They have already been dropping off coats at all of these locations even before the launch today. So, we’re appreciative. A lot of years ago we saw a need, it’s as great as food insecurity is to people. If you’re out in the cold and you’re very cold, you can’t be healthy. And so, this is just an easy way to actually make people feel valued, to build trust between law enforcement and the community and to actually support people in their time of need. We’re happy to be doing it again this year,” said Sheriff Kathy Witt.

The sheriff’s office says coat donations will be accepted at Chase Dry Cleaners through Dec. 15.

If you are unable to drop them off yourself, Sheriff Witt says to call the sheriff’s office at 859-252-1771 and a deputy will be happy to come and pick them up.

And those who are unable to come to pick out a coat, call the office and a deputy will bring some to you.
