Father Charged With Murdering His Baby Takes Back Confession
A man accused of murdering his one-month-old baby speaks out.
Police say Caz Hazuga confessed to the crime. We spoke with him from jail, where he proclaimed his innocence.
In jail, Caz Hazuga mourns the death of his one-month-old son.
"I didn’t even have time to know him, for him to even know who I was," said Hazuga.
Thanksgiving night in his Lexington home, Hazuga says his baby went limp, his eyes rolled back, and he stopped breathing.
"I was freaking out. After he went limp, I was freaking out pretty bad. I really don’t know what I was feeling," said Hazuga.
Police say Hazuga murdered his son. Police say Hazuga admitted to intentionally hitting his son’s head on the kitchen counter multiple times.
Hazuga says he wanted the interrogation to stop, so he just said yes to what the police accused him of. But still, why would any innocent person admit to murder?
"I felt like if I didn’t tell them what they were saying was true that they were going to blame it on my fiancee, or blame it on my brother, which I wasn’t going to let happen," said Hazuga.
In detail, Hazuga remembers what happened before his child went limp.
"He ate about a half-ounce," recalled Hazuga.
And then?
"Everything happened so fast. Everything was just such a blur," said Hazuga.
He says he can’t say for sure he did not accidentally hurt his son, but he says he definitely did not murder him.
"I would take my life over any of my family members’ lives," said Hazuga.
He will mourn alone. A judge denied Hazuga bond.
