Fatal trooper-involved shooting in Bath County

BATH COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person is dead and a trooper is in the hospital following a trooper-involved shooting late Sunday night in Bath County.

It happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Bethel Ridge Road near a church.

State Police say 34-year-old Dwayne Martin brandished a knife in an aggressive manner toward Trooper Jason Brown.

Trooper Brown was stabbed in the arm and suffered lacerations to the head, according to officials.

Investigators say Trooper Thurman Paige then fired his duty weapon which resulted in Martin being fatally wounded.

The trooper was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital.

There is no word on his condition.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police Critical Response Team.
