Fatal collision in Lyon County under investigation

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A collision in Lyon County Wednesday evening has left one person dead and is currently being investigated by Kentucky State Police (KSP).

According to KSP, Post 1 dispatch received a call around 5:50 p.m. about an injury collision on US HWY 641 close to two miles north of Eddyville. Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies and KSP Post 1 Reconstruction Team members responded to the scene.

The initial investigation showed Travis L. Rodden, 39, of Poinsett, Arkansas was driving a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia north on US HWY 641 when the trailer he was pulling dropped off the east side of the roadway. He attempted to get the trailer back on the road, but overcorrected, crossed both lanes of traffic and collided with a tree on the west side of the roadway. The trailer was then blocking both lanes of traffic.

William G. Hardrick, 42, of Princeton was driving south on US HWY 641 when his 2019 Autocar Refuse Truck collided with Rodden’s trailer. Hardrick was declared deceased at the scene by the Lyon County Coroner. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.

Trooper Aaron Jestes is leading the ongoing investigation and reconstruction. Working on the scene was KSP Post 1, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, Eddyville Police Department, Eddyville Fire Department, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division of the KSP and the Lyon County Coroner’s Office.
