FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. – As of 5:30 p.m., I-64 eastbound has reopened following a fatal accident earlier in the afternoon, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
State Police are investigating that wreck.
Investigators say it happened after 911 dispatchers received calls about a reckless driver on I-64 East.
State Police and sheriff’s deputies were trying to find a red 2005 Dodge Magnum after those calls, but it was involved in a deadly crash near the 55 mile marker before they could find it.
According to KSP, a preliminary investigation found the 22-year-old driver, Shyanne Adkins, from Jefferson County lost control of her vehicle and hit a guardrail off the right shoulder.
The driver then got back on the road and rear-ended another car then hit another guardrail. Adkins was ejected from her car and the coroner pronounced her dead at the scene, the KSP said.
No one in the other car was hurt.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A one-car fatal accident has shut down I-64 eastbound in Franklin County, according to the Frankfort Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
And the road likely will remain closed for sometime. Construction work on Highway 60 in the area is making alternative routes a traffic nightmare as well, according to motorists.
The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. and the interstate is closed at Exit 53 — the Franklin-Lawrenceburg exit — and traffic is being diverted to Highway 127.
Eastbound all lanes blocked. Traffic being diverted off at exit 53 to US 127. Motorists can take US 127 north to the East-West connector (KY 676) to Versailles Road (US 60) south back to re-enter I-64, according to the Transportation Cabinet.
But motorists on social media say the connector and Highway 60 also are congested.
