LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fans gathered at Kroger Field Saturday to cheer on their favorite teams.
The first game of the day, Mayfield high School versus Somerset High School.
Jason Todd, father of Somerset player #39 Caleb Todd says his son and his teammates showed up focused and ready to play.
“The team has got their nose down and they’re focused. We didn’t have a pep rally or a big send off. They didn’t want none of that. They’re focused on what they’re going to do and that’s all we can ask. They’re well coached and they’re great boys. They worked hard to get here,” remarked Todd.
The Johnson Central Eagles took on the Boyle County Rebels Sunday afternoon.
Boyle County Mom to #24 Landen Bartleson, Tequisha Bugg, says the team put in hours of work to reach the championship.
“They have film every morning before school and they weight lift. they do lots of things. practice everyday so they definitely point in a lot of hard work to get to this point,” she says.

“Our football team works…has been working since beginning of June..since last school year’s been over. That’s 7 month’s preparation and work. they practice every day. Monday through Sunday no matter what. They work so hard. And I have no doubt that Coach Landis has put in a great game plan and I have no doubt that they will do their thing tonight.”
