Family of Murdered Toddler Host Candlelight Vigil

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ)- Family and friends came together to mourn two-year-old Nova Gallman’s death at what they say was once one of her favorite places to play, Duncan Park.

It was a night filled with tears and prayer as family and friends mourned Gallman.

“It’s really freaking hard for our family right now and we are trying everything we can to stay together,” said Gallman’s aunt.

To help bring everyone together, the family hosted a vigil at Duncan Park, lighting candles in Gallman’s memory and releasing balloons of some of her favorite movie characters.

“I think that it was a very beautiful thing because it shows a, like support you know, from people that don’t even know her. You know people coming from different places just to support Nova and just to be there for her is a beautiful thing, you know,” said Gallman’s aunt.

While Gallman’s death is a tragedy, her family says they hope it will inspire change in the community.

“Collectively I think we can stop the violence in our neighborhoods just by going back and talking to people. Talk to children, talk to grown-ups about, um, that people’s lives matter,” said Robin Green, Gallman’s great-uncle.

While her family continues to grieve they say they are confident in one thing, that little Nova is watching over them.

“I know your nails is done, you got your ten bows on, you know Elsa and Anna are up there dancing. We love you baby,” said a group of Gallman’s relatives.
