Family camps out for limited edition Adolph Rupp Maker’s Mark bottle

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Every year Maker’s Mark releases a collector’s bottle of its famous bourbon and this year it’s sure to sell out.

Overnight both Keeneland fans and Solid Blue fans were lining up to get their hands on the limited edition bottle, featuring none other than legendary coach, Adolph Rupp.

At midnight Friday, ABC 36 spotted campers at the Man O’ War Boulevard and Richmond Road Liquor Barns. Everyone there was waiting for the stores to open their doors Friday at 9 a.m.

For the Everman family, it’s a tradition that they look forward to every year. The Evermans were parked in Liquor Barn’s lot since 9 p.m. Thursday and their dog even tagged along.

Only 18,000 of the Adolph Rupp bottles were made and the Everman’s hope to take home two of them.

Thursday’s rain storms didn’t even drown out their goal to be one of the first in line.

Greg Everman says it might be extreme, but it’s all for a worthy cause.

Maker’s Mark says this year’s commemorative bottle featuring Coach Rupp is the first in a series that will go towards funding the University of Kentucky’s new tutoring center.

Buyers of the bottles can get them signed at an autograph session Friday, April 10, at 8 a.m. at Keeneland.

Four of Coach Rupp’s All American players; Cliff Hagan, Dan Issel, Frank Ramsey and Adrian "Odie" Smith will be there to sign the bottles.

There is no charge to attend the signing event, but tickets are required. Those tickets will be available at the Keene Barne beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9.
