Fallen officer’s family honored at EKU game
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The family of slain Richmond Police Officer Daniel Ellis was honored Thursday night at the EKU-Jacksonville State men’s basketball game. Officer Ellis was gunned down in the line of duty while investigating a robbery last November.
Ellis’ widow, Katie Ellis and her young son shook hands with the team before the game and sat on the bench. Katie Ellis said it was especially memorable for her son.
“The first thing he said was, ‘they’re so tall.’ He had a great time. He high-fived them all at the beginning. It was really special. We’ll always remember this,” Ellis said.
Her parents were also at the game. The family received a basketball signed by the entire EKU team.
