Berea College, The Host of Many Berea Attractions

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – Community outreach is an important aspect of Berea College. Today we talked to several students that are experiencing that part of their education first hand.

The first stop today is the hub of campus, the Visitor Center. This center is open to the community, students and visitors alike. Students put on handmade craft demonstrations throughout the day, and give tours of the college and art galleries.

The Visitor Center has recently added a smoothie bar that offers fresh, healthy food items for everyone. The center is making a big push toward creating an environment that students gravitate toward in an attempt to make the Visitor Center an even more inviting first stop at Berea College.

The second stop is the Doris Ullman Gallery. The art gallery features six exhibits. Two of these host permanent galleries. The remaining four showcase traveling and local artists’ works. The gallery also hosts artist talks, where students, community members and visitors can learn about the artists’ inspirations and engage them on a personal level.

Lastly, we talked with two students who work at the Berea College Forestry Outreach Center. This center sets at the trail head of the popular Pinnacles.

The Forestry Outreach Center is a shared space for community members and Berea College faculty, students and staff to learn about the lands and waters that sustain us all.

On November 3rd, the Forestry Center is hosting the Restorative Forestry Horse Logging Demonstration. Several loggers from across the east coast will join together to host this demonstration. Events on November 3rd are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Come out and join the festivities!
