Excessive rain causes partial road closure in Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Drivers are being told to use caution on one Whitley County road after excessive rain takes out part of the ground nearby.

According to Whitley County Emergency Management, U.S. 25W has been reduced to one lane between G&E Drive-In and Campbell Hill due to a mudslide.

The slide happened Thursday night.

Officials say the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet inspected the road and decided to leave it open.

The roadway is expected to remain one-lane for about two weeks.

Officials tell the News-Enterprise newspaper that workers are waiting for water in the river to recede before beginning work on the slide.
