Ex-Army officer to lead veterans home

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A retired Army officer has been appointed as the new administrator of Thomson-Hood Veterans Center at Wilmore in central Kentucky.

Ben Sweger’s appointment was announced by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs. The agency’s commissioner, Heather French Henry, says the retired Army major has 20 years of experience in administering long-term care facilities.

The agency says Sweger has administered both profit and nonprofit long-term care facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee. He pursued a second career as a licensed nursing home administrator after retiring from the military in 1994.

With 285 beds, the facility at Wilmore is the largest of the state Veterans Affairs agency’s veterans centers. It opened in 1991 and employs 412 people.
