Estill County still without safe drinking water

IRVINE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Too much rain but not enough water in Estill County where there is a critical water shortage.

Emergency management says there is still about 500 households without water in the county plus more with very little water pressure. Everyone in the county has to bring water to a rolling boil for three minutes before drinking.

The county handed out bottled water to people without water or with low water pressure Tuesday. It was the eight time the county has handed out water in the past couple weeks because of pipe problems.

Last week, the county says a pipe broke which then caused a chain reaction of events including leaving a lot of people without drinkable water. The county says the pipe has been fixed and tank levels are starting to rise.

“If all goes as it is now and things are progressing as it is now,” said Billy Williams will Irvine Municipal Utilities, “Possibly Thursday morning all advisories may be lifted.”

The county asks people to be patient and conserve water. It says the quicker it can get the tanks filled, the quicker it can return safe drinking water to everyone.
