Estill County holds benefit concert for storm victims
ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- People in Estill County are still trying to put their lives back together after dangerous storms hit earlier this month.
A local family that hosts an annual music festival in town thought an all day benefit concert would be a great way to raise money for the storm victims and also a perfect Saturday family activity.
Dozens of musicians from around the region hit the stage for an all day benefit concert in Estill County to raise money for the more than 20 families whose homes were destroyed by this month’s storms.
“The people needed help you know they’re left homeless. There’s 21 homes that have been completely destroyed and they need help so we’re trying to find the best way to bring the community together and there’s no better way to do that than music,” said Kenton Roberts, one of the organizers.
In addition to the live music, the benefit also featured a raffle and cook-out with one hundred percent of the proceeds going directly to the storm victims.
“We love our community so anything we can do to give back is our pleasure,” said LeeAmber Roberts, one of the organizers.
Hundreds of people came out to support the concert, something organizers say shows the heart of this community.
“It’s your home town. It’s your community you know and there’s still good people in the world. You know people want to help people out. They’re eager to jump in and help were they can,” said Geno Seale, one of the musicians who played at the concert.
Organizers told me they were not sure exactly how much money they were going to raise from today’s concert but were just happy to help in any way they could.
