Engine fire on Madison Co. school bus

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A small engine fire broke out on a Madison Co. school bus this afternoon.

According to school officials, bus #223 was pulling into Kit Carson Elementary when the driver said she was having trouble steering.  The school’s principal claims he saw "steam" coming out of the vehicle, and asked the driver to evacuate the bus.

Further investigation revealed a leak in the power steering had caused a small fire to break out in the engine.  The fire was quickly put out, while students were taken into the school to wait for a substitute bus.  That bus arrived and took the students home shortly after the fire was put out.

The Community Education Director says there were no injuries, and the incident was handled quickly.
