Emotional day for family and friends of Caleb Conley

Steven Sheanshang pleading guilty and charged to life without parole

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Steven Sheanshang pleaded guilty to charges of murder of a police officer, robbery and possession of handgun by a convicted felon in a Scott County courtroom on Wednesday.

Police say Sheangshang shot and killed Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley during a traffic stop back in May of 2023.

The judge sentencing Sheanshang to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

It was an emotional day in the courtroom as family and friends gathered to support Caleb’s wife and parents.

Conley’s wife, Rachel, spoke before the sentencing about the pain she now faces everyday.

“I became a widow at the age of 31 and my five year old daughter and 11 year old son will now have to grow up without a father,” said Rachel. “He won’t be there to teach lessons only a father can teach.”

She continued saying “One of my favorite things about Caleb was his hugs. He had the best hugs and in the last couple of years I have needed those hugs more than you can imagine and I will never receive one again. Steven Sheanshang took that from me and my children.”

Jolene Conley, Caleb’s mother, also spoke, remembering the last time she saw and spoke to her son, the day he died.

“He gave me the biggest hug, that he always gave, and big kiss on the cheek and said ‘I love you mom’ and I in return said to him ‘I love you Caleb and I am so proud of you,” said Jolene. “I made it a point to always tell him how proud I was of him. Now the only place I have to go to tell him that is a big headstone in a cemetery.”

Sheanshang will live out his sentence in the department of corrections.
